How to Make a WordPress Post or Page into a Draft
The steps to make a WordPress post or page into a draft depend on whether you’re creating a new one or already have an existing one:
For a new post/page:
- Go to your WordPress dashboard.
- Click “Posts” or “Pages” depending on what you want to create.
- Click “Add New”.
- Enter your content in the editor.
- Instead of clicking “Publish” in the top right corner, click “Save Draft”. This will save your work as a draft, but it won’t be visible to the public.
- (Optional) You can preview your draft by clicking the “Preview” button next to the “Save Draft” button.
- To continue editing your draft later, just go back to the “Posts” or “Pages” section and click on the title of your draft.
For an existing post/page:

- Go to your WordPress dashboard.
- Click “Posts” or “Pages” depending on the type of content you want to edit.
- Click on the title of the post or page you want to make a draft.
- This will open the editor with your existing content.
- In the “Publish” box on the right side of the screen, click on the word “Published”. This will open a drop-down menu.
- Select “Draft” from the drop-down menu.
- Click “Update”. This will save your changes and revert the post/page to draft status.
Additional tips:
- You can also switch a post/page to draft from the Gutenberg editor itself. In the top right corner, click the three dots and select “Switch to draft”.
- If you want to schedule your draft to be published later, you can use the “Publish” options below the “Status” section.
- You can always save your draft and come back to it later without losing your work.
I hope these steps help! Let me know if you have any other questions.
