How to Add a User to Google Search Console: Step-by-Step Guide
Google Search Console (GSC) is an essential tool that helps you monitor your website’s presence on Google and maintain its health. If you’re working with a team, you’ll likely need to add other users to your GSC account. Follow this simple guide to add new users quickly and securely.

Step 1: Log in to Google Search Console
- Visit search.google.com/search-console.
- Ensure you’re logged into the Google account associated with your website property.
Step 2: Select the Correct Website Property
- From the top-left corner of your dashboard, choose the correct website property from the dropdown menu.
Step 3: Open the Settings Panel
- On the left-hand navigation menu, scroll down and click on “Settings”. See above photo left hand column.
Step 4: Navigate to Users and Permissions
- Within the Settings panel, you’ll see a section called “Users and permissions.” Click on this option.
Step 5: Click “Add User”
- In the Users and permissions section, you’ll see an “Add User” button at the top-right corner. Click on it. See above screenshot, right of screen.
Step 6: Enter the New User’s Email Address
- A pop-up window will appear asking you to input the user’s email address (it must be a Google account).
- Carefully type or paste in the email address of the person you want to add.
Step 7: Set User Permissions
- Below the email field, you’ll need to select the user’s permissions level. Google Search Console offers two levels:
- Full access: User can view all data and settings, and can perform actions such as submitting sitemaps and URLs.
- Restricted access: User can only view most data but can’t perform major actions or changes.
- Choose the appropriate permission level based on the user’s role and responsibilities.
Step 8: Click “Add” to Confirm
- After entering the email and selecting the permissions level, click the “Add” button to finalize your selection.
Step 9: Notify the New User
- The new user will automatically receive an email notification from Google, granting them access to your Google Search Console account.
- Advise them to check their inbox (including spam/junk folders if necessary) and accept the invitation if prompted.
